This exquisite stained-glass-style design captures a deeply reverent scene, featuring Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin also known simply as Juan Diego with the tilma and image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Juan Diego opens his mantle or tilma, and the flowers pour to the floor, and on the mantle is an imprint of the Virgin Mary's image, Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Saint Juan Diego was the first indigenous American canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. Juan Diego died in 1548 and was buried in the first chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe. On 6 May 1990 Juan Diego was beatified by Pope John Paul II in the Basilica of Santa Maria di Guadalupe in Mexico City.
The window depict Juan Diego's visions and the imparting of the miraculous image, the basis of the veneration of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
